It is such a privilege being a REALTOR. We help families imagine the kind of home they wish to live in and we help them find it. Or, we help families sell a home that is no longer useful for them. Either way, helping people with their dreams and knowing that they will be sharing a Thanksgiving meal at home in part because of the work we do is a real reason to give thanks. For us and for the families we have helped get settled in and around the Poconos this past year, we have much to be thankful for.

Many of our CRE agents have kids and grandkids and in fact, all of us have worked with families with kids who are in the midst of buying or selling a home. Lots of activity surrounds the buying and selling process, especially during the hectic holidays. But it gets done and of course, everyone is thankful. So after all the work is done, it’s time to have fun and relax.

As Thanksgiving approaches I reflect on the many  family gatherings and the joy of togetherness.

I am most thankful for the blessing of my children who are healthy and happy.  For the love of family and friends.  I  am thankful to my associates at CREyourway  who are the hardest working Realtors in Monroe County.  In this time of economic  challenges they have proven that  caring about their clients and working with them with integrity  and hard work is what it is all about.

Why is Thanksgiving celebrated when it is?

Answer:

The original harvest celebration of the Pilgrims happened in the autumn of 1621 to celebrate the colony’s first successful year. President George Washington proclaimed the first national day of thanksgiving in 1789, but it was president Abraham Lincoln who officially declared the last Thursday in November Thanksgiving, beginning in 1863. It was during the Civil War, and Lincoln’s proclamation advised people to make this holiday a special time for family, religion, and community. Much later, President Franklin Roosevelt moved Thanksgiving to the third Thursday of November to create a longer Christmas shopping season. But in 1941, Congress made Thanksgiving fall on the fourth Thursday in November, and it’s been that way ever since!

Homebuyer Tax Credit Extended and Expanded

Dear Veronica,

You did it. You’ve succeeded in achieving a huge victory for real estate. Congress heard you on the need to both extend and expand the homebuyer tax credit to continue stimulating the housing sector of the economy. The Senate voted 98-0 on Wednesday and yesterday the House voted 403-12 on legislation that includes the extension and expansion of the credit. The President is expected to sign the legislation, perhaps as early as today.

Thank you for making this victory happen. Your letters in response to our Call for Action made a very big difference, as did the thousands of REALTOR® phone calls, visits by Federal Political Coordinators—all members of NAR—in getting this legislation passed. This is a great victory for the economy, for homebuyers, and for all of you in real estate.  You made your case to Congress. We deeply appreciate your commitment and involvement on this issue and trust your continued support will follow in the weeks ahead on all our future Calls for Action.
